I want to get this out in the open right off the bat. If you do not
run "keyed" programs, or just detest the key concept in general, then
delete this program right now!
In short, I've release programs both ways and it's blatantly evident
that non-expiring programs DON'T get registered! If you are one of
the very FEW who does register non-expiring shareware, then sorry
for the inconvenience. However, let me assure you that you are most
definitely in the minority!
Since I don't believe in "Crippleware" and this is my primary
occupation, I am forced to Key my software.
Now, if you're still interested in trying the program, continue.
Starting with this version, there is no longer a demo key distributed
with the software. Reason: The odds are that it will have expired
when you get it.
However, all hope is not lost! Unlike most keyed programs, this one
WILL run without a key! However, it will only run in Local Mode. In
other words, if you try to enter the door with anything but COM0 and
0 Baud, the program will notify you that the key is missing and exit.
This way, you can set the program up with a couple of doors then log
on locally and see what it's all about. I would suggest that you go
do that now. No sense wasting your time finding out how to get a key
if you don't even like the program!
If you are converting from DoorMan v2.01, the program will detect if
you have a valid registration code installed. If a valid code is found,
the program will create Registered key(s). If you have only registered
DoorMan, and not DMGraph (formally DoorStat) the program will create
a Demo key for the utility.
OK. You've looked at the program and decided that it's worth the buck
to call and get a demo key. So, how do you do it.
Simple. If you are a Fidonet, Entertainment Net, or ITCnet member,
simply take the DOORMAN.REG file created by DoorEdit and f'req it
to 1:296/3 or 16:6901/1 or 85:838/101 respectively. Once the .REG
file is received, it will be processed and your keys will be sent.
If you're not a member of one of these nets, you will need to Logon
to my BBS at 314-686-1687. Once you press Escape twice to get passed
the mailer, you will be presented with a choice:
[C]ontinue on to Bumpkinland
or
[D]etour to the Software Support Center
If you've got the time (and cash) to spare, I invite you to log on
to the BBS as a new member and browse around. You can access the
Support Center from the City Limits Menu. However, if you're like
me, you'll probably want to grab a key and get. That's why the
Software Support Center is there. You can simply [D]etour without
ever having to mess with the BBS. All that is required is that you
enter your *REAL* first and last name! Once you've done that, you
will be presented with a menu, the first option being Get Keys!
Once you select that, you will be asked if you wish to upload a .REG
file, or fill out the questionaire. If you upload the .REG file,
you're keys will be shipped pronto. If not, or if something goes
wrong with the transfer, you can simply fill out the same questions
as asked in DoorEdit and get the keys. Either way is faster than
logging on to the BBS as a new user!
Note to Q-Modem Users: Due to the fact Q-Modem uses
the arrow keys for the scrollback buffer, you will need
to hit your num lock and use 2 and 8 to navigate the menus
of the Software Support Center.
Once you've gotten the keys, all you have to do is put them in
your DoorMan directory and you're up and running *FULLY* functional
for 32 Days.
Now, is it really that bad?
I will be the first to admit that this method is not fool proof. There
is at least one way to foil this scheme and use the program indefinitely.
However, let me assure you, it will make things hard for you! If you
find a way to run the program indefinitely without registering, contact
me and tell me what it is. If it is not the one I already know about,
I'll give you the registration FREE!! How's that for a deal?
Thanx for trying DoorMan!
